Empower WoC believes community activism and advocacy will help us reach our goals. We invite you to join a committee to share your creativity, positive energy, and ideas.

Candidate & Endorsement Committee
Chair: Becky Arredondo

Develop a process for endorsing candidates who are Women of Color and seek endorsement. Encourage submissions of endorsement applications. Review applications and conduct one-on-one interviews regarding applicant stances on issues. Make endorsement recommendations to the organization. Identify national, state, and local candidate training opportunities and hold yearly “call for candidates” event.

Fundraising Committee
Co-Chairs: Jocelyn Murray & Kavita Patil-Doddamane

Plan and implement at least one major fund-raiser each year and/or one or more smaller fund-raisers. Develop creative ideas on activities that will be profitable and fun. Organize subcommittees to plan and implement all event aspects including: site selection and logistics, promotion, sponsorships, ticket sales, budgeting and management, etc.

Political & Voter Engagement (PAVE) Committee
Co-Chairs: Rekha Shenoy & Hazel Weathers

Identify political, legislative, and voting issues impacting people of color that can be influenced by organizing and advocacy. Publish articles, write letters, attend school board and council meetings, participate in marches/protests. Educate and register voters. Develop relationships and network with organizations that align with our values. Regularly exchange information on issues and activities. Collaborate, organize, and support events that help achieve our goals.

Women Voting

Communications Committee
Chair: Elisa Klein

Ensure the visibility of the organization to the public in multiple formats. Maintain an active Facebook presence and expand to Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, or other social media platforms as needed. Update the website as needed with events, news, links or other information. Develop handout materials for events and community meetings and prepare press releases when needed.

Keep a record of members in an Excel data file, send welcome notes to each person who joins, sign in members and guests at events and meetings. Follow up with guests, encourage renewal of members annually, and develop and implement initiatives to solicit new members.

Programs/Events Committee
Chair: Jacqueline Shaw

Find locations to hold regular member meetings or events and make required arrangements for space, audio-visual support and room set-ups. Seek out and schedule guest speakers and act as liaison for them. Coordinate snacks or drinks, if served. Coordinate room set-up or clean-up if needed.
